The problem is you don't know if it opened, because the visual/audio feedback is very poor. If you're far enough away for long enough, the box opens. It doesn't detonate the instant you're within line of sight and beside a corpse. In the DD strongbox case "nearby" means the entire length of a standard aspect ratio screen distance, maybe more, since it's a vaal detonate dead chain reaction. "Detonates nearby corpses" is a poor description, since "nearby" isn't precisely defined and in some cases means radius 6, 30, or 70. ^ You have really low standards for game quality/polish if you think the current implementation is good enough.
